THE CARE GUIDE
Discover how to care for your pieces to make them last longer.
To care for your Artknit piece, it is essential to know whether it is knitted or woven. Learn how to tell the difference so you can follow specific directions for washing, drying, and ironing.
Most of our pieces are knitted from Merino Wool, Cashmere, Organic Cotton and Linen. This means that a single yarn is knit onto itself, creating different kinds of textures that can appear smooth, ribbed or openwork. If you gently pull the fabric and you encounter no resistance, and when you look at the weave, you can glimpse workmanship with a wavy pattern, it means your garment is knit.
Woven fabrics are made by crossing two sets of threads perpendicularly, creating a more rigid and stable structure than knitwear. If the weave appears even, dense, compact, and the texture is not stretchy, it means your garment is woven – such as our Linen Twill Pants, Worsted Wool Pants, Merino Wool Swim Shorts, and the Woolen Coat and Accessories.
Made of quality natural fibers, our knitwear does not need to be washed after each use. Washing less and correctly helps keep your Artknit pieces in perfect shape and saves resources.
1. WASHING
Turn the garment inside out and hand wash it for ten minutes at 40° maximum. If your garment is Cashmere or Wool, we recommend using a specific detergent. If it is Linen, Cotton, or Silk, use a mild detergent.
2. DRYING
We do not recommend using a tumble dryer, which may cause damage to the knit. Remove excess water from the piece by rolling it in a towel and pressing gently. Lay it flat and let it dry at room temperature, avoiding direct contact with the sun.
3. IRONING
To remove creases, use steam from an iron by holding it about an inch away from your piece, without resting it directly on the knit. This method not only removes creases but also refreshes the piece between uses.
4. STORING
Proper storage is key to maintaining the shape and quality of your pieces. When storing them in the closet, fold them on a shelf rather than hanging them.
For Wool or Cashmere during seasonal storage, we advise using natural moth repellents and our cloth bags for added protection.

HOW TO REMOVE PILLING
Pilling is a natural explosion of fibers that creates specks on the garment, caused by rubbing against surfaces.
To remove it, lay the knit on a flat surface and gently go over it with our comb in one direction
If your piece can be washed with water and not just dry-cleaned, gentle washing along with similar materials and colors is preferable. Use a specific detergent for Merino Wool pieces and a mild detergent for all other materials. Do not lay garments out in the sun to avoid fading the color.
