4 MYTHS TO DEBUNK ABOUT ORGANIC COTTON

What do we mean by "Organic" when we talk about cotton?

Organic cotton refers to cotton grown according to the principles of organic farming, a cultivation method without the use of synthetic pesticides harmful to the environment, and without the use of genetically modified organisms. Here are some myths to debunk regarding this essential material for soil regeneration, waste reduction, and pollution caused by the world's most produced vegetable fiber.

MYTH #1: Organic Cotton is less soft than traditional cotton.

False! Organic Cotton fibers are generally longer and thinner, making the yarn smoother and softer. Additionally, it is hand-picked, thus helping to preserve the natural properties of the fiber.
In addition to organic farming, another factor affecting the softness of cotton is the characteristics of the soil where it is grown, but above all, the way it is spun and processed.

MYTH #2: Organic Cotton is not truly sustainable.

Absolute sustainability does not exist, but certified Organic Cotton is certainly a more responsible choice because its cultivation follows the principles of organic farming, without synthetic pesticides that pollute the soil.
For this reason, it is correct to say that Organic Cotton is more sustainable than standard cotton.

MYTH #3: Organic Cotton consumes the same amount of water as standard Cotton.

Water consumption depends on many factors, primarily the geographical location of cultivation. However, Organic Cotton is generally grown on smaller plantations compared to standard cotton, where better water resource management is possible.

It is therefore not possible to generalize and state that Organic Cotton consumes more or less water: to find out, it is necessary to analyze the data of the Life Cycle Assessment. You can find this data on every product page of our website and discover how many liters of water were used to make a piece, from fiber cultivation to final packaging.

MYTH #4: It is impossible to know if cotton is truly Organic.

This, too, is actually a false myth: certifications are very helpful in recognizing Organic Cotton. The Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) certification guarantees that farmers, communities, and nature are not exposed to harmful chemical substances, and that production is carried out responsibly.
